Settling in

I can feel winter beginning to turn to spring. We’ve had several rainy, gray days this week but overall it is more mild. We’re getting more light in the days which is probably my favorite sign of warmer days ahead. There are also flowers out and about, especially daffodils, hyacinths, and other spring bulbs. As a person from the land of an almost perpetual summer, I love getting two spring seasons this year!

This week is the final week before we start the more hardcore prep for the semester. I spent the last two weeks working on my visa application, cleaning gardening tools, sewing, weeding around the backyard, and decorating my room. I’m also taking a Zumba instructor course online! That means I’ve been dancing around the living room quite a bit. 😉

I spend a lot of time around the house but I do get out sometimes! This week I ran errands like printing off forms, purchasing a few items for my room, and helping to get the program vehicles in order. I also had several dinners with friends which was lovely. Oh and we went out to the weekly quiz night last night! In my mind it’s fun no matter how many answers you contribute. The great company helps. 🙂

Tool cleaning kit! Soaking the really rusty ones in vinegar overnight was helpful.

As I said earlier, we begin prep for the semester on Monday! There is a lot that needs done to prepare the space and ourselves for this re-launch of CCSP. I’m so excited to get the space ready to welcome students. And I’m also a bit nervous. Those two emotions are often paired, aren’t they? I am learning to appreciate them together instead of wishing I could feel just the one I “think” is more positive.

Probably my favorite project this week has been turning my room into a more cozy space. My goal was to make it a place where I can rest and find inspiration. I’ve found that is especially important when you live where you work. It’s helpful to have a spot where you can get out of work mode and relax. I try to include lots of visual representations of who I love and where I come from. Also, lots of fun colors and warm lights!

This Mexican blanket is my favorite item to bring with me wherever I go
The fairy lights were completely worth the effort!
This is THE most comfy chair ever!!! If you want me to get excited about something ask me about this chair

That is it for now! I’m looking forward to seeing where this next week takes us. I hope you all are well wherever you are.

P.S.

I found this photo from 2.5 years ago! My dear friend Anna H. did a photoshoot for me to help capture the joy it gives me.

    • Aw, yes aren’t they wonderful chairs? Do you ever miss yours?
This one was a great find at the local used goods store. I think I got it for like $7 US dollars a few years ago here in NZ! It fits me perfectly and is so comfy. I missed it like crazy when I was back in the States the last 2 years..

      • I do miss that chair! At the time I wasn’t in a position to drag it around with me, so I left it with a roommate. I’m glad you have one as part of your happy place.

  1. Your room is so you, Laura. Maybe not the red but all the other warm, cozy, reminders of loved ones inc. plants and animals all around. Love the lights! We are keeping you and the other CCSP leaders in prayer as you head into “preflight warmup”!
